LACSON, CAYETANO FIND COMMON DENOMINATORS
IN PLATFORMS AND FOE

AGOO, La Union As the campaign period progresses, opposition senatorial bets Panfilo Lacson and Alan Peter Cayetano are finding themselves to have more things in common: a common platform and a common foe.

Our platforms jibe on the principles of good governance and that public office is a public trust, Lacson told reporters at a press conference.

He added he and Cayetano also share a common platform of exposing wrongdoings and standing up for their constituents rights.

Lacson recalled he had been a victim of black propaganda from Atty. Arroyos camp as well, dating back to 2001 when he first became senator.

At the time, he said various characters came out to link him to kidnapping and other crimes, but the allegations were later proven to be baseless.

Sen. Lacson and I have a common denominator in fighting corruption and in willing to stand up for the people we represent: Taguig-Pateros for me and the whole nation for Sen. Lacson, Cayetano added.

Cayetano said the biggest problem facing the country now is graft and corruption, where 40 centavos of every peso in revenues collected goes to corruption. Worse, he cited local think tanks as saying that for every P1 collected, another P1 to 2 is lost.

He said the problem with the Garci tapes is that it has encouraged cheating because those who were involved were rewarded with promotions and juicy posts.

Whats the incentive? Now theres no disincentive to cheat) The incentive is to cheat. Thats why you have dirty tricks like this, he said.

Cayetano said these are aside from the attempts to disqualify him by fielding a namesake supposedly running under the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL).

Another dirty trick, he said, was a party-list group Aladin naming him and two other opposition bets as part of political dynasties.

Millions of pesos were spent on those ads. Where did the money for that come from? he said.
