VILLAR: BIOFUELS LAW WILL BENEFIT NEGRENSES
Optimistic that implementation of Biofuels Law will boost the provinces sugar industry

Senate President Manny Villar, President of the Nacionalista Party, says that Negrenses will benefit greatly from the implementation of the Biofuels Law since one of the biofuels that will be used as an additive to gasolinebioethanol is from sugarcane, a main product of Negros Occidental.

We all know that Negros is the country's prime producer of sugar. Thus, the sugar industry of the province will get a much-deserved shot in the arm with the implementation of biofuels law. Business will be good for workers and owners of Negros sugar cane plantations, cites Villar, who visited the province as part of his campaign sortie. Based on Senate Bill (SB) 2226 or The Biofuels Act of 2006, passed into law in the Senate under Villars leadership, bioethanol will be blended at five percent per volume into all gasoline fuels, within two years from the effectivity of the bill and at ten percent within four years from its effectivity. The biofuels bill mandates and promotes the use of alternative, renewable energies such as compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, hydrogen and any liquid at least 85 percent of the volume of which consists of methanol, ethanol, or methyl ester such as coco-biodiesel. According to Villar, The Biofuels Act, once implemented will benefit not only the five million or so registered vehicle owners in the country but over the long term, the environment, because it will mandate the use of fuels from indigenous and renewable sources. It will bring down the pollution level, not to mention energy utilization.

Furthermore, he cites, It will also help Filipino consumers to cope with the rising prices of oil and reduce the countrys dependence on imported oil. This is a good start in making the Philippines self-reliant. Villar visited the public market of the cities of Negros Occidental such as in Bacolod, Talisay, Silay, Victoria, Cadiz, San Carlos, Kabankalan, Bago among others where he was warmly received by Negrenses.
