Cites tourism potential of Camarines Surs water sports facilities

Senate President Manny Villar, President of the Nacionalista Party, went around Camarines Sur today to continue his palengke tour and survey the rehabilitation that is still ongoing in areas of Bicol which were badly hit by three typhoons last year.

According to Villar, There is still a lot of work to be done. Rehabilitation is a process and given the persevering attitude of Bicolanos, I am optimistic that they will fully recover from the after-effects of the natural disasters that hit them.

Villar adds, Slowly but surely, Bicolanos in typhoon-hit areas are starting over again, building their houses and sources of livelihood. There is so much potential in Camarines Sur in particular especially in the area of tourism. Because of its world-class water sports facilities, it is already a preferred destination for foreign tourists.

Villar visited the popular Camsur Watersports Complex (CWC) in Pili which together with the World Wakeboard Association will host the first ever International Wakeboarding Competition from May 25 to26 in time for the Kaogma Festival in the province.

CWC is also slated to host the wakeboarding world championship next year. The province of Camarines Sur and CWC beat other countries in the bid for the hosting of the event which is held every two years and participated in by various countries worldwide. Wakeboarding is the fastest-growing extreme sports in the world.

Officials say that the world event would put Camarines Sur at the centerstage and make the province a major tourist destination. The CWC is the second cable wakeboard facility in the Philippines and the seventh in Asia. There are only 150 similar facilities worldwide.

The national government should really support the province in further enhancing and capitalizing on its huge potential in becoming a prime tourist destination. The beaches here can rival the best in the country or even in the world. Of course, we all know that Sorsogon has become famous for its butanding whales and there is the perfect cone of Mayon Volcano which is an all-time favorite tourist destination in Bicol also, cites Villar.

In between surveying the rehabilitation and tourism projects in Camarines Sur, Villar also roamed around the public markets of Naga, Pili, Iriga, Nabua, Ligao, Daraga, Tabaco and Legaspi.
