Angara on Southern Tagalog educational institutes

Sen. Edgardo J. Angara has tagged the Southern Tagalog region as one of the main sources of highly-educated, literate and competent work force in the country today.

The secret of Southern Tagalogs progressive and productive regional economy lies in its excellent educational training institutions in Laguna, Batangas and Cavite, Angara said.

Angara, former president of the University of the Philippines (UP), noted that these high-calibre institutions in Southern Tagalog have expertise in basic sciences and agricultural courses.

These academic institutions include UP in Los Banos,LAguna, Cavite State University in Indang, Cavite, Batangas State University in Batangas City and Apacible School of Fisheries in Nasugbu, Batangas.

He also noted that females dominate the higher levels of education in Laguna and Batangas. Majority of the population who were college undergraduates, academic degree holders, and with post baccalaureate courses were females. On the contrary, majority of the population who had post secondary courses were males, Angara said.

More than one-third of the household population aged five years old and over had either attended/finished elementary or high school. Close to 13 percent were college under- graduates and a meager 6 percent, with higher education, he continued.
