GORDON COMMENDS SC RULING FAVORING TRANSPARENCY

Senator Richard J. Gordon commended the Supreme Court yesterday for its ruling favoring transparency in the disclosure of party-list nominees in the May 14, 2007 elections.

The Supreme Court once again upheld the supremacy of the Constitution by affirming the right of the people to information on matters of public concern as recognized by the Constitution, said Gordon.

Gordon continued that this pronouncement, being inextricably linked to the peoples right of suffrage, particularly under the party-list system, further emphasizes the importance of the proper exercise of the informed right to vote for the elective official to whom the powers of government will be bestowed upon for the time being.

He also added that as a matter of principle, transparency should be observed at all times, because it favors honesty and accountability in government.
