Angara grants six full college scholarships to Dumaguete youth

Senator Edgardo Angara has granted full college scholarships to six poor but deserving students from different universities in Dumaguete City.

In a youth forum sponsored by the Lions Club of Dumaguete City, Senator Angara personally met the six scholars, who have applied under the scholarship program that the senator has been running.

To qualify for Senator Angara scholarship program, students should have at least an average grade of 2.0 or 85%, with no subject lower than 80%.

According to Senator Angara, this is the first time he has extended scholarships outside of Metro Manila and Luzon. He plans to continue giving out scholarships throughout the country.

Senator Angara has long been actively granting scholarships to poor but deserving students. The parents of six scholars from Dumaguete, for instance, are farmers. These students are an addition to the current 88 promising Angara scholars taking up various courses in schools like the University of the Philippines (Diliman, Los Banos and Manila), Centro Escolar University, Far Eastern University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Rizal Technological College, Wesleyan College of Cabanatuan, Philippine State College of Aeronautics, AMA Computer Learning Center, Araullo University, Cavite State Univerisity and Aurora State College of Science and Technology.

Since school year 1994, there have been 4,948,199 Angara scholars in the country. Senator Angara's efforts to institutionalize educational assistance have to date produced 22,292 DOST scholars, 1,293 CHED Scholars, 115 private Angara Scholars, 57 UP Asian Center Scholars, 4,924,293 Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education ( GASTPE) recipients, and 143 DA-Fulbright scholars.

The six scholars from Dumaguete City are taking up different courses in the Foundation University, Negros Oriental University, and Siliman University. Three of them are taking up BS Nursing, while the others are taking up BS Information Technology, BS Criminology, and BS Office Management.
