Villar reasserts standing as top-performing national official in new survey

Senate President Manny Villar today expressed elation over the findings of the latest Social Weather Stations indicating a 66 percent public satisfaction with his performance as leader of the Upper Chamber.

"To a public servant, nothing can prove to be more motivating than the expressed satisfaction with your work from the very people you serve. It inspires us to do more," Villar said.

He added that the latest survey results also shows that the Senate remains to be the institution most trusted by the people.

On Monday, pollster SWS in its Second Quarter 2007 survey, announced that Villar maintained his net satisfaction ratings in the +50s in the past two quarters, doing better than the net +39 and net +52 during his first two quarters as Senate president. The new survey was fielded over June 27-30, 2007, using face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults from all over the country.

It also shows that Vice President Noli de Castro got 57 percent satisfaction rating, House Speaker Jose de Venecia, 37 percent, and Chief Justice Reynato Puno, 35 percent.

In the same period, Villar got the lowest dissatisfaction rating at 16 percent (+51 net), Vice President de Castro, 27 percent (+30 net); Chief Justice Puno, 32 % (+3 net); and Speaker de Venecia 38 percent (-1 net).

The survey also found a net satisfaction rating of +29 for the Senate, followed by +20 for the House of Representatives, +12 for the Supreme Court and +1 for the Cabinet.

"This fuels our eagerness to organize the Senate the soonest time possible so we can start crafting meaningful legislation that will spell the difference to our people's lives," Villar said. The SWS survey confirms the findings of the Pulse Asia survey conducted from June 28 to July 10, where the Senate President received an approval rating of 67 percent, the highest received among the top officials of government.
