Noynoy lauds CA order to release report of Burgos probe

Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" S. Aquino III today hailed the Court of Appeals decision ordering the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to produce a copy of its investigation report on the abduction of activist Jonas Burgos.

"I am heartened by the CA's decision to order the release of the report. It has upheld the law and paved the way for the execution of justice," Aquino said, expressing hope that the Court's decision would lead to a resolution to the Jonas Burgos case.

"The judiciary has again proven itself to be an effective institutional check on Executive authority," added Aquino, commending the CA for "upholding the law and furthering the cause of justice in the face of repeated efforts at obstruction."

In a privilege speech marking the 24tth death anniversary of his father, the late Senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr., the younger Aquino commended the Supreme Court's efforts to protect citizens from government abuses, especially in cases of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.

"While denouncing the institutions of government that have, by their inaction, abdicated their democratic duties," Aquino said in his speech, "we should also note with pride the existence of those who, by their actions, continue to provide us with hope."
