YOUTH CLUBS VIE FOR TAYO (TEN ACCOMPLISHED
YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS) YEAR 5 AWARDS

Twenty of the country's best youth organizations will vie for the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations Award (TAYO)Year 5 as the search holds its final judging on October 19, 2007 at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati. Awarding ceremonies will take place at the Bahia Penthouse Function Room, Hotel Intercontinental, Makati City on Monday, October 22, 2007 at 2 PM.

Steered by the National Youth Commission, the Office of Senate Majority Leader Kiko Pangilinan, the Philippine Council of Young Political Leaders and the TAYO Awards Foundation, TAYO seeks out outstanding youth organizations and their projects from 4 areas: Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and NCR. It then chooses 5 clubs per area to represent their region in the Final Judging held in Manila where they present their entries before a panel of judges.

Winners will be chosen based on their projects' impact, social mobilization, innovativeness, sustainability and probability of duplication, and are given plaques of commendation and a grant of P50, 000.00.

Anduyog Youth Volunteer Movement - Legazpi City, Albay

U.P. Tsinelas - Cebu City

U.P. Cebu High School Student Council - Cebu City

U.P. An Balangaw Performing Arts Group - Tacloban City, Leyte

Silak sa Kauswagan Youth Organization - Hinunangan, Southern Leyte

Volunteers for Integrated Public Service - Iloilo City

Mindanao :

Jolo Rescue Network - Jolo, Sulu

Books and Information Technology Society (BITS) - Koronadal City, South Cotabato

This year's panel will be composed of Senator Kiko Pangilinan,TAYO Awards Foundation President Bam Aquino,National Youth Commission Executive Director Apolonio Meleniza,Ms. Cecile Alcantara of the Coca-Cola Foundation, Mr. Roberto Calingo of Team Energy, DSWD Undersecretary Alicia Bala, Ms. Veronica Pangilinan of Caltex Philippines, Fr. Teodulo Gonzales, S.J. of Ateneo-CEFAM, Pof. Edel Guiza of Asian Institute of Management, Ms. Alexandra Prieto-Romualdez of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Mr. Ramon Isberto of Smart Communications and Ms. Blessie Labra-Cruz of Cebu Pacific.

"We have various award-giving bodies for outstanding youths, but they mostly recognize young individuals for their accomplishments. TAYO on the other hand distinguishes youth organizations for working together, recognizing the needs of their various communities and responding to them despite meager resources and other limitations," Kiko explained.
