Pinoys remain satisfied with Villar's performance as Senate President
Villar welcomes highest satisfaction rating among top public officials

Senate President Manny Villar today welcomed the results of the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, showing that majority of Filipinos remains satisfied with his performance as leader of the Upper Chamber.

Villar expressed elation over the +52 net satisfaction rating he got from the survey conducted on June 27-30, 2008, which makes him the top-performing public official in the land.

"This positive rating takes on a new meaning amid the economic upheaval suffered by the people. It invigorates us more to lead efforts in finding long-term solutions and providing relief to the people as fuel and food prices hit historic highs," Villar, also the Nacionalista Party president, said.

According to the 2008 Second Quarter Social Weather Survey, 66 percent of respondents were satisfied and 14 percent dissatisfied with Villar's performance for a net satisfaction of +52.

Villar's performance rating has been over +40 in all but one quarter since SWS rated his performance as Senate President in September 2006, SWS said.

It also shows that 51% are satisfied and 24% dissatisfied with the performance of the Senate, or a net +27. Net satisfaction with the Senate has been at double-digit positive since mid-2006, ranging from +14 to +32. "This only shows that the people continue to trust the institution of the Senate and the senators. Let me assure our people that the Senate will remain a bastion of independence in upholding the best interests of the Filipino citizenry. It will remain committed to carrying out its check-and-balance function under the Constitution aside from passing urgently needed laws," Villar said. The SWS survey also showed a +37 net satisfaction rating for Vice President Noli de Castro, 10 points down from his net +47 in March 2008. He is followed by Chief Justice Reynato Puno at +3 and House of Representatives Speaker Prospero Nograles at -15.

The latest survey found a net satisfaction rating of +10 for the House of Representatives and net +6 for the Supreme Court.
