ROXAS TO FILIPINOS: LET'S STOP 'GLORIA FOREVER'

Liberal President Senator Mar Roxas today called on Filipinos to join the anti-Charter Change (Cha-Cha) rally to be held tomorrow, Friday, in Makati City, stressing that the constituent assembly proposed by allies of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo aims to enshrine a "Gloria Forever" Constitution.

"Sumama tayong lahat sa rally laban sa Cha-Cha. Siguruhin natin na hindi matutuloy ang maitim na balak ng mga kakampi ng Palasyo na palawigin pa ang termino ni GMA(Let's join the anti-Cha-Cha rally. Let's stop together the Palace plot to prolong GMA's term)," he said.

Roxas warned that an extension of President Arroyo's term would mean worse poverty and more corruption-tainted controversies in the country.

"Sa bawat araw na mananatili si Pangulong Arroyo sa puwesto, lalong lalala ang kahirapan, gutom at katiwalian sa ating bansa. Masyado na tayong naghihirap ngayon, hindi na natin papayagang mangyari pa ito (The longer that President Arroyo stays in power, the worse the poverty, hunger and corruption will get. We are suffering too much now, and we should not suffer any longer)," he said.

The Ilonggo senator has been consistent on his anti-Charter Change position before the 2010 elections.

He has filed a bill in the Senate proposing the convening of a constitutional convention after the next presidential elections, with the election of delegates to be held simultaneously with the 2010 polls. A counterpart bill has been filed by Liberal Party stalwarts at the House of Representatives.

Roxas and members of the Liberal Party will join the inter-faith Friday rally in Makati City, which will be attended by multi-sectoral groups, among them the Black and White Movement, Bayan Muna and church-based groups.
