Excerpts from the breakfast forum at Cafe Coeli in Quezon City

Q: Sir ano pong reaction niyo na si Chief Justice Reynato Puno po mismo ang magco-convene dito para sa moral force movement?

RJG: I have the highest respect for Chief Justice Reynato Puno. I took my oath of office in front of him, piling-pili ang pinag-susumpaan ko. Bago ko sumumpa, pinipili kong maigi kung kanino ako susumpa. I believe in him, he is a very, very good man, very intelligent man, very erudite man. I just worry na baka mamaya magkaroon ng bahid yan sapagkat siyempre that is really very judicial aggressiveness on the part of the judiciary kung sila'y papasok jan sa lugar na yan. That may be something that he will have to risk. But if he is a risk-taker, he will do so. Moral reports, you know, that's good. But like I said, dapat araw-araw yan e. Nireremind tayo araw-araw. Why do we need others to remind us about the need for morality in our country and we do need it if we just really remember ang ating tungkulin, our duties and responsibilities for our country.

Q: impact ng si Chief Justice ang magco-convene?

RJG: I think sinabi ko na sa inyo. Again, inuulit ko, malaki ang saludo ko kay Justice Puno pero ito medjo judicial activism masyado ito from the judiciary.

Q: Is that a good or bad thing?

RJG: Well, baka mamaya magkaroon ng bahid pulitika at I don't want na mabawasan yung kanyang ningning. And this is not a criticism, it's really more out of concern.

On : latest media killing

RJG: Ngayon may pinatay na naman, kakukuha ko lang, sa Ozamis City , katulad ng mga kasama natin dito, mga mediamen. Ang pangalan niya Ernie Rullen of Bantay-Lungsod, DXSY Osamis, ambush today. I stood up many times in Congress, nagsawa na din yata ang media, ayaw niyo na masyadong ilabas ang mga ganoong istorya. Bakit, napagod na ba kayo? That is exactly what these people are trying to do to us, sina Bolante, yung mga sa ZTE lahat yan, papagurin tayo ng papagurin hanggang sa sabihin natin, it is impossible. That is what is happening to our country whether you like it or not. We have learned to accept, wala tayong magawa, masyadong malakas ang kalaban, hindi rin ilalabas sa media, hindi rin naman iimbestigahin. Yan ang nangyayari sa atin. I've stood up and I will stand up again today in the Senate and say another mediaman has been killed. That is practically killing press freedom in this country and yet pinag-aaksayahan natin ng panahon si Smith, out of proportion ang binibigay nating atensyon. There are things that we must focus on. Focus on the priority problems of our country. My father was assassinated that's why to this day, I fight for those who are killed, I fight for the rule of law.
