Villar wants Senate recognition for Donaire, Viloria

Nacionalista Party President Sen. Manny Villar today filed a resolution commending Filipino boxers Nonito Donaire and Brian Viloria for winning the world championship in their respective boxing divisions.

"We see a new breed of Manny Pacquiao in the likes of Donaire and Viloria with their win over Mexican opponents. They deserve to be honored for the gallant feat that made Filipinos all over the world proud and inspired," Villar said.

Villar filed PSR No. 994 commending the Filipino-American flyweight "The Filipino Flash" Donaire and junior flyweight "The Hawaiian Punch" Viloria for their victories against fighters from Mexico in a hometown crowd at the Araneta Coliseum last Sunday.

Donaire, who fought in the main event, retained his International Boxing Federation (IBF) and International Boxing Organization world flyweight titles with a fourth-round technical knockout of Mexican Raul "Cobra" Martinez who had a record of 24-0 with 14 knockouts. Donaire knocked down Martinez in the fourth round.

In the supporting bout to the main event, Viloria knocked out champion Ulises Solis of Mexico in the 11th round to capture the IBF junior flyweight title.

"Donaire and Viloria reinforced what Pacquiao have already proven to the whole world that Filipinos have what it takes to excel in whatever field of endeavor. They bring great pride and inspire all Filipinos to excel in their undertakings to achieve success and world recognition," Villar said.
