CHIZ: FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IS PARAMOUNT

We laud the Supreme Court for ruling that the National Telecommunications Commission has no authority to revoke the certificates of public convenience and other licenses issued to broadcasting companies.

We maintain that the constitutional right to free expression is and should always be upheld, preserved, and defended. Thus, any attempt to stifle or curtail this constitutional right should be rejected and condemned.

Broadcasting companies should not be held hostage by the government under the threat of having their permits and licenses to operate cancelled. This kind of coercion has no place in a democratic society such as ours and only serves to weaken, rather than strengthen, the government.

The Supreme Court ruling serves as a clear reminder to government to respect the Constitution.
