KIKO PANGILINAN: NO TO REVOLUTIONARY GOVERNMENT;
CHANGE IN ADMINISTRATION IS WHAT'S NEEDED

Independent senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan lambasts a recent suggestion that President Arroyo can assume revolutionary powers to change the constitution.

"This administration is not part of the solution. It is part of the problem, and the sooner the life of this administration ends, the better for the nation," Pangilinan said during the Naga leg of Rock the Vote, a registration campaign drive for the 2010 elections.

National Security Advisor Norberto Gonzales proposes a revolutionary government patterned after former President Cory Aquino's reign as a result of the 1986 EDSA revolution. Pangilinan, who together with fellow reformists leads a registration drive and anti-conass adds that "a change in leadership through elections is what the Filipinos want. Are they afraid to hear what our people have to say? Let them be heard.

"A national election will provide the much needed release of the nationwide discontent now nearing boiling point. The endless political scandals that have plagued the nation for nearly a decade now has stretched the limits of our people's patience. The Gonzales proposal will be the last straw that will break the camel's back. It must be vigorously opposed."
