Pia: Feat of 'Fantastic Four' honor guards commended in Senate Resolution

Senator Pia S. Cayetano will file a Senate Resolution on Monday to commend the four honor guards who steadfastly stood by the coffin of former President Corazon Aquino throughout the nine-hour funeral march that brought the revered leader's remains from Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila to Manila Memorial Park in Sucat, Paranaque last Wednesday (August 5).

Cayetano, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Social Justice, joined the entire nation in expressing admiration for PO1 Danilo Maalab Jr., Pfc. Antonio Cadiente, Airman 2nd Class Gener Laguindan, and Navy Petty Officer 3 Edgardo Rodriguez. The four became overnight celebrities and was even referred to as the 'Fantastic Four' by the late president's grandson, Jiggy Aquino Cruz. Portions of her resolution read: "Whereas, the four honor guards outstandingly performed their simple duty of guarding the casket as a means of paying tribute to the late former President Aquino who was an epitome of humility, selflessness and strength;

"Whereas, PO1 Maalab, Pfc. Cadiente, Airman 2nd Class Laguindan, and Navy Petty Officer 3 Rodriguez accomplished their task well, emulating in their own way, the values of the late former President Aquino;

"Whereas, one of the messages of the late former President Aquino was that there is no little job and that no good job is left unnoticed;

"Whereas, these four honor guards exemplified the core values of a Filipino peace officer as well as the very essence of a true public servant."
