CHIZ TO 6,080 BAR HOPEFULS: USE THE LAW FOR COMMON GOOD

I wish the thousands of men and women taking the Bar Examinations this year good luck and may they find the strength, wisdom and perserverance to prevail over this last hurdle before becoming bona fide lawyers.

Exactly 16 years ago, I was in the same place as all of you, studying hard and praying fervently that my preparations and hard work were enough to earn for myself a career in the legal profession and the right and privilege to be called a lawyer.

On the eve of Bar exams, I also remind all Bar examinees that as future lawyers of the land, you will carry on your shoulders the responsibility of promoting the public good. As lawyers you will become the vanguards of justice, equality and democracy. We are a nation of laws, and as such, the fabric of our laws are strengthened by moral and proper application. Everytime the law is applied judiciously and equitably, our democracy is strengthened. This is the challenge that faces every Bar examinee; this is the challenge you face.

Our country is in constant need of men and women who can rise to the challenge and become the vanguards of society. May this year's batch of Bar examinees keep the flame of justice and equality alive and burning.

Mabuhay kayong lahat.
