Opposition Sen. Chiz Escudero is urging the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) to discuss the issue of contractualization and setting proper wages for employees and workers during its national policy forum on Wednesday.

"I have been against contractualization since employees are not given the privilege of job security and tenure. The NWPC must address this issue for the sake of the workers," he said. Among those that would be discussed in the forum are labor concerns which would include productivity and wages.

Representatives from 16 regional wage boards, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the National Development Authority are expected to participate in the forum. Members of the Lower House and Senate committee on labor and employment would also join the forum.

"If the wage boards and government agencies continue to ignore the rights of workers and tolerate contractualization, I would not hesitate to file a bill junking the contractual system and increasing wages," he added.
