KIKO PANGILINAN: SENATE STAND ON MARTIAL LAW CLEAR--PROCLAMATION IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

The Senate this morning adopted SR 1522 with 18 senators as signatories.

According to Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, the resolution sends out clearly to the public the Senate's stand on the President's declaration of Martial Law in Maguindanao as unconstitutional.

"The resolution was approved without objection. Despite the lifting of the Martial Law, let the resolution send a strong message to Malacanang that the Senate, by an overwhelming majority vote, considers the ML as without factual and legal basis."

"For the Senate, the lifting does not render the issue moot and academic, and the resolution is a definitive finding by the upper chamber that the declaration is contrary to the constitution."
