Sen. Benigno S. Aquino III in Cebu

Liberal Party (LP) presidential bet Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III expressed confidence yesterday that his support will deepen in the Visayas by March when a wave of converts are expected to openly declare their support for him.

"Alam po natin iyong proseso. Meron pang releases na inaasahan. Meron pang pakinabang sa pakikisama sa administration party," he said in a press conference upon his arrival in Cebu City. "Meron na ring ilan na hindi natin inaakalang sasama sa atin, at nakumpromiso na sa ibang kampo na kasama na ng buong buo. Baka magulat kayo," Aquino said.

Aquino declined to name the new recruits and converts, pointing out that some of his supporters have been victims of harassment and political violence, citing the killing of a Noynoy Aquino for President Movement (NAPM) organizer in Pampanga. The LP standard bearer said he expects the new recruits and converts to begin to surface when the election ban on public works projects takes effect in March. "In the last few weeks alone, people I didn't even talk to because I considered it impossible to get stalwarts of other parties have told me they will join me at the appropriate time," Aquino said.

Among those who joined Aquino in the press conference were incumbent Cebu Vice Governor Greg Sanchez and Jun Davide, son of former Chief Justice Hilario Davide, who will be the LP candidate for governor in Cebu.
