LOREN THANKS EL SHADDAI FOR ENDORSEMENT

Vice presidential candidate Senator Loren Legarda is grateful for the support of the El Shaddai, which officially endorsed the Villar-Loren tandem during their grand prayer meeting in Hong Kong last Sunday.

"I thank El Shaddai, led by Brother Mike Velarde, for this endorsement. I reaffirm my faith with the spiritual and other values El Shaddai stands for, especially its concern for the poor," she said.

El Shaddai's endorsement is seen to give a big boost Loren's candidacy. Founded by Brother Mike Velarde, the El Shaddai Movement has grown rapidly in the last decade and, as of 2005, has a reported 8 million followers worldwide.

Loren also thanked the support and prayers of thousands of OFWs at the Hong Kong gathering.

"I am for protecting the rights and welfare of overseas Filipino workers migrant workers. This is the best reward we can give them for their sacrifices and hard work," she said.

Loren's 7-point agenda of governance includes the empowerment of OFWs through broader pre-employment at pre-departure support, skills training, social, gender and labor rights protection in their countries of destination, safe remittance channels, and psychological support when they re-integrate with their communities upon return.

There are approximately 150,000 Filipinos in Hong Kong, most of whom are working as domestic helpers or workers in the service and entertainment industries.
