Presidency no 'OJT' - Villar

Nacionalista Party (NP) standard bearer Manny Villar yesterday said the presidency cannot be an "OJT" (on-the-job-training) stint for the next chief executive of the land.

"Masalimuot na ang mga problema ng bansa. Hindi naman pwede on-the-job-training o probationary period sapagkat napalaki ng mga problema ng ating bansa," Villar said on DZBB's presidential interview "Ikaw na Ba?"

The NP standard-bearer said leadership, competence and experience are the critical factors that the next president must possess to be able to address the country's problems from Day One onwards.

"Kailangan mo ang liderato, kakayahan at karanasan. Walang probationary period.

He cited the power crisis and the effects of drought on agriculture as among the biggest problems that the next president will have to tackle starting on the first day of his presidency.

"We just got back from Mindanao where we experienced brownouts and saw the severity of the power shortage there. It was similar to what the country experienced in 1986, 1990," Villar said.

He added that the agriculture sector is also reeling from drought which has already resulted in crop losses reaching hundreds of millions of pesos.
