YOUTH VOTE STILL FOR AQUINO-ROXAS TANDEM
LP BETS WIN IN MISAMIS ORIENTAL, LEYTE UNIVERSITY MOCK POLLS

The tandem of Liberal Party standard-bearer Senator Benigno S. Aquino III and vice presidential race frontrunner Senator Mar Roxas remained the youth and student sector's top choice to become the next top leaders of the country in mock polls in two leading academic institutions in the provinces of Misamis Oriental and Leyte.

In a mock poll separately held at the Xavier University in Cagayan De Oro City, Misamis Oriental during the last week of February and at St. Scholastica's College of Health Sciences in Tacloban last February 18, both Aquino and Roxas smothered their rivals and proved they remain the team to beat in the May 10 elections.

In the Xavier University mock poll, 49% of students chose Aquino as the candidate they will vote for President while an overwhelming 61% selected Roxas as their bet for Vice President.

In a separate mock poll in St. Scholastica's College last February 18, 57.44% of the students picked Aquino as their candidate for President while 51.99% chose Roxas as their Vice President.

Administration candidate Gilbert Teodoro placed second with 25%, Manuel Villar in third place with 16%, Richard Gordon in fourth place with 3.3%, former President Joseph Estrada in fifth place with 2.8%, TV evangelist Bro. Eddie Villanueva in sixth with 2.0%, environment advocate Nicanor Perlas in seventh with 1.0%, and Senator Jamby Madrigal. 3%, Perseus Acosta .1%, and JC Delos Reyes - 0%.

In the vice presidential race, Jejomar Binay placed second with 17% while Senator Loren Legarda placed third with 12.6%, Bayani Fernando in fourth with 5.1%, Edu Manzano sixth with 1.9%, former SEC chair Perfecto Yasay seventh with .4%, and broadcast journalist Jay Sonza eighth with 1%.

In the St. Scholastica mock polls, the other presidential bets' ranking were as follows: Villar - 14.65%, Teodoro - 12.79%, Gordon - 6.28%, Estrada - 4.07%, Villanueva - 2.33%, Madrigal - 0.93%, Perlas - 0.70%, Delos Reyes - 0.47%, and Acosta - 0.35%.

In the vice presidential race, Binay placed second with 32.2%, Legarda in third place with 10.13%, Fernando fourth with 4.21%, Manzano fifth with 0.91%, and Dominador Chipeco - 0.11%, and Sonza - 0.1%.

Last February 27, two different surveys conducted by the UST's official newspaper Varsitarian and Research Cluster for Culture, Education and Social Issues from December 14 to 18, 2009, the students of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila already honed Noynoy Aquino and Mar Roxas as their top choices to vote if the presidential and vice presidential elections were held today.
