KIKO PANGILINAN TO JBC: DON'T BE A RUBBER STAMP OF THE SC

Liberal Party spokesperson and LP slate campaign manager Kiko Pangilinan calls on the JBC to file a motion for reconsideration on the SC ruling allowing PGMA to appoint the next Chief Justice.

'The JBC as a collegial body should vote on whether or not it agrees with the Supreme Court decision, and if it has the vote favoring opposition to the ruling, it should file a motion for reconsideration with the SC. The JBC, while under the supervision of the SC, is not under its control when it comes to its powers to screen nominees and submit the list of nominees to Malacanang.'

Pangilinan served as JBC senate representative from 2001 to 2008. The senator has had the longest term as senate representative since the JBC was created in 1987.

'The JBC is not, and never should be, a rubber stamp of the Supreme Court. It should vote on the issue and make its stand known to the public.'
