LEGARDA URGES COMELEC TO BRING VOTER EDUCATION TO GRADUATION CEREMONIES

With the graduation season having begun this month, NP-NPC-LDP vice presidential bet Loren Legarda urged the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to take advantage of the commencement exercises to intensify their voter education efforts.

"Many of these new graduates are first time voters. I suggest that COMELEC work with universities and colleges in bringing their information drive on the automated elections to schools around the country," said Legarda.

"With the May 10 balloting barely two months away, COMELEC should make sure that both old and new voters are not at a loss about the automated election procedures," she said.

Legarda said that graduation ceremonies are a prime venue for voter education, where the poll body can set up booths to demonstrate the automated voting as well as distribute informational materials.

"I encourage the youth to exercise their right to vote, with utmost responsibility in choosing their future leaders wisely," Legarda added.

An estimated 400,000 students are set to graduate this year.
