Bulakeños vow to support Aquino-Roxas

Prominent political leaders in Bulacan today vowed to support leading Presidential candidate Sen. Benigno S. "Noynoy" Aquino III and running mate Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas II to ensure a victory for the Liberal Party (LP) tandem in the May polls.

Headed by Governor Joselito "Jonjon" Mendoza, former Bulacan Governor Josefina dela Cruz, and the mayors of five towns, the leaders said they would not put off support for Aquino and Roxas despite being the target of political persecution since they elected to ally with the LP.

The Commission of Elections last year ordered Mendoza to vacate his post a few weeks after he declared support for Aquino and Roxas, who currently lead in all national surveys for president and vice-president, respectively.

Bulakeños swarmed the LP motorcade as it paid visits to the towns of Bocaue, Balagatas, Guiginto, Plaridel, Pulilan, Baliuag, San Rafael, San Ildefonso, and San Miguel.

Aquino spoke with supporters in San Rafael, where he stressed the need to eliminate corruption and poverty by bringing about a clean, competent, and compassionate government. He said that diverted resources due to massive corruption deprive the poor of their basic needs such as education and healthcare, thereby worsening their living conditions.

Aquino has been campaigning on a platform of good governance and freedom from the culture of corruption, which is the major cause of poverty in the country.
