Loren part of Kabataan Partylist's dream slate

NP-NPC-LDP Vice Presidential Candidate Senator Loren Legarda was today endorsed by Kabataan Partylist as its vice-president in the "dream slate" that it launched earlier this morning at the Kowloon House, Quezon City.

Loren accepted the endorsement through his son, Leandro Antonio, who represented Loren in the signing of the "Youth Covenant" that upholds the youth's rights to education, employment, environment and good governance.

"My mother is honored by the endorsement. Youth welfare and the environment have always been among her top priorities as a senator. She has authored laws that protect the environment, such as the Clean Air Act and the Climate Change Act, the first law in Asia that provides a comprehensive plan to adapt to and mitigate the impact of global warming. Her Libro ni Loren Foundation has provided textbooks and other reading materials as well as scholarships to underprivileged children in the provinces. Her Luntiang Pilipinas Foundation, on the other hand, has helped plant trees in the urban areas and provide a greener, healthier environment in the cities," said Leandro.

"The Kabataan Party's support for my mother is not just an endorsement of a personality, but an endorsement of her platform to fight climate change," Leandro said.

The Kabataan Partylist named Loren as its vice president because of her pro-environment agenda, and her support for campus press freedom. "Sen. Legarda unites with the youth in caring for the environment and upholding freedom of speech in the campus," said Anakbayan National Chair Ken Ramos.

The Kabataan Partylist represents the youth, and is the umbrella organization of various national student organizations, such as the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP), College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP), Student Christian Movement of the Philippines (SCMP), League of Filipino Students, ANAKBAYAN, Kabataang Artista para sa Tunay na Kalayaan (KARATULA), and Youth ACT Now! (Youth for Truth and Accountability Now).
