The Senate approved a resolution Tuesday congratulating the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) on its 96thanniversary.

Introduced by Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, Senate Resolution No. 8 was one of the first resolutions approved by the Senate after it resumed its regular session last Monday, July 26.

The resolution was unanimously approved by Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Senate Pro-Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito-Estrada, Majority Leader Tito Sotto, Minority Leader Alan Peter "Compañero" Cayetano; Senators Edgardo J. Angara, Joker P. Arroyo, Francis Joseph "Chiz" Escudero, Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan, Loren Legarda, Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, Manny Villar, Zubiri, "Compañera" Pia Cayetano, Franklin Drilon, Teofisto "TG" Guingona III, Manuel "Lito" Lapid, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., Sergio "Serge" Osmena III, Ralph Recto, and Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr.

According to the resolution, "Iglesia Ni Cristo has not only become an integral part of the religious history of the Philippines, it has also become a pillar in the spiritual growth of the Filipinos and the citizens of the world."

The resolution also acknowledged the keen leadership of Bro. Eduardo Manalo who taught church members "to be responsible and productive members of the society," and also took note of the fact that members of the Iglesia ni Cristo have been role models for the rest of the citizenry over the years.

The resolution, congratulating the INC under the leadership of Bro. Eduardo Manalo on the occasion of its 96th anniversary, also states that "despite the demise of its former Executive Minister, Ka Erdie Manalo last year, the Iglesia has shown its fortitude and steadfastness in spreading the Good News and the discipline and spirituality of its members."

Zubiri is co-author of Republic Act. No. 9645 or "An Act Declaring July 27 of Every Year as a Special National Working Holiday" as a fitting recognition to the indispensable role and invaluable contributions of the Iglesia Ni Cristo to the nation.
