"I join the people of Palawan in mourning the death of Dr. Gerry Ortega and demanding swift justice for his senseless and brutal death."

"Dr. Ortega is a personal friend whom I've known since my college days. He is a family man, a dedicated environmentalist and a committed public servant who had always been passionate in defending the rights of his fellow Palaweños."

"My deepest sympathies go to his wife, Patty, a dear friend who was my teammate for four years in the UP Varsity Volleyball team, their children and loved ones.

"May his death not be reduced to another statistic in the long list of unsolved media killings in the country. The PNP should leave no stone unturned in getting to the bottom of this case and bring to justice the mastermind behind the hired gunman who took his life."
