"I congratulate Nonito 'The Filipino Flash' Donaire for his impressive win via technical knockout (TKO) over Fernando Montiel, knocking down the Mexican champion in the second round of their 12-round duel and snaring the WBC and WBO bantamweight crown.

"Nonito showed that success is possible through discipline, a well-thought out fight plan and hard work. It's about time the world take notice of the Philippines, which can proudly lay claim to producing two of the best pound-for-pound boxing champions of our time in Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire.

"I know Nonito personally not only as a fierce fighter, but also as a gentleman outside the ring with a big heart and compassion for others. He goes out of his way to help differently abled children and kids facing tough circumstances through the Gabriel's Symphony Foundation which I founded in memory of my son.
