ANGARA AT PCL CONVENTION

Pasay, Metro Manila--Senator Edgardo J. Angara awarded the Ten Outstanding Councilors of the Philippines (TOCP), giving one million pesos to each awardee which will go into advancing their development projects in their cities and municipalities.

Angara called on the hundreds of councilors present at the awarding ceremonies to redefine "legislature at the grassroots level".

"This is a way to strengthen local governance by supporting the local leaders who showed initiative and good leadership," said Angara.

According to Angara, who has shown support for this award since its inception in 2006, councilors are vital to the government because they ensure "delivery of services with direct communication with constituents and real-time results," unlike leaders in the national arena.

"I urge all of you to take these ten young men and women and emulate them to become effective leaders, show good governance and create progressive programs," said the veteran legislator.

Angara appealed to the councilors to utilize the rapid developments in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to become more attuned to the needs of the people who need them.

"I believe that harnessing the power of ICT would enable all of us as public servants to regain the trust and faith from the people which has been dwindling in recent years," he asserted.

The annual convention of the 2011 Philippine Councilor's League was held at the SMX, Mall of Asia.
