ANGARA: TECH-BASED EDUCATION ARE WEALTH & JOB CREATORS

Senator Edgardo J. Angara underscored the importance of good education especially in the fields of technology and research, which he said are the foundation of a country's wealth and progress in the modern age.

"Technological courses are the wealth and job creators especially in developing countries such as the Philippines," he said during the graduation ceremonies of

Asian College of Science and Technology.

"Through the power of education, I was able to lift myself up, help my family and accomplish all these things in the education sector as well as in public policy and legislation," said Angara, referring to the glowing introduction by ACSAT COO Mr. David Sia.

"Because I deeply believe in the power of education, the Free High School Act was one of my first projects when I became senator in 1987. State-funded secondary education became available, so students then had the choice between continuing academics in the tertiary level or to pursue a tech/voc track," said Angara, chair of the Senate Committee on Education, Arts and Culture.

Angara also pushed for the creation Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education or GASTPE, which was originally conceived to give financial aid to students across the country. GASTPE is now known as one of the biggest scholarship providers in the Philippines.

According to Angara, these new technological graduates are the key to improving the Philippines competitiveness among its neighbors in Southeast Asia.

"This is how you can serve your country: by advancing our fields of science and technology as well as research and development. You must seize the opportunities being offered to you because of your training and use all of you abilities to push our nation forward," he said.
