Pia lauds delisting of PH from US trafficking watch list

Senator Pia S. Cayetano today welcomed the removal of the Philippines from the US State Department's watch list in its '2011 Trafficking in Persons Report' that was released on Monday.

"The removal of the Philippines from the watch list and moving us to Tier 2 indicates that we are moving in the right direction," said Cayetano, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Youth, Women and Family Relations. "But we have not, by far, solved this problem. We should continue to exert efforts to address this issue."

"For as long as there is one woman, one child, one Filipino who is a victim of trafficking, our work is not over," she added.

Cayetano is a co-sponsor of Senate Bill No. 2625 which seeks to further strengthen the country's measures against trafficking by amending Republic Act 9208, the 'Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003.'
