STATEMENT ON THE FIRE INCIDENT

I thank the members of the Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms (OSAA) and the Senate Engineering Office for their expedient response to the fire that broke out at my Office early this morning (around 8:00 am). Because of their speedy action, the fire was immediately put out just minutes after it was detected, minimizing the damage and destruction it could have caused.

Initial reports point to a fault that arose from one of the electrical outlets in the office where a refrigerator was plugged-in. Fortunately, only the refrigerator and a nearby wall were damaged in the incident.

We will be waiting for the official report on the matter so that we can immediately rectify the fault that caused the fire and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
