KIKO: NOW THE REAL WORK BEGINS

Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan urges all Filipinos to support the Bangsamoro Framework Agreement signed by the government peace panel and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), while admitting that there is still more that needs to be done.

"The framework agreement is a major first step for us to achieve genuine peace in Mindanao. A lot of work remains to be done. A commitment to peace is hollow unless the quality of life of our people in Mindanao vastly improves."

Pangilinan also calls on MNLF Chairman Nur Misuari to give peace a chance.

The lawmaker and peace advocate continues, "The aggressive peace negotiations with the MNLF in the nineties created that window of opportunity that led to the progress and development of Davao City, General Santos, and Cagayan de Oro. We look to the peace talks with the MILF as a means to usher in a second wave of development that will see the economic rise of cities like Cotabato, Iligan, Marbel, and Marawi. Only the creation of these pockets of progress and development, and the realization of meaningful changes in the quality of life of our people, that will render armed conflict and the insurgency irrelevant."
