Senate approves three special working holidays in Cebu

The Senate today approved on third and final reading three House Bills declaring special working holidays in Cebu.

"The declaration of local holidays through congressional legislations will permanently preserve and uphold the local historical and significant events that enrich the cultural heritage of local government units," Sen. Bongbong Marcos, chairman of the Committee on Local Government and sponsor of the proposed measures said.

House Bill Nos. 537, 540 and 3496 were all approved with fourteen affirmative votes, zero negative votes and zero abstention.

The bills were introduced by Cebu Representatives Eduardo Gullas and Marlyn Primicias-Agabas.

House Bill No. 537 declares September 5 of every year as a special working holiday in Naga City to be known as the Charter City Day of the City of Naga, commemorating the foundation day of the city.

On the other hand, House Bill No. 540 declares July 7 of every year as a special working holiday in Carcar City to be known as the Charter City Day of the City of Carcar, commemorating the foundation day of the city, while House Bill No. 3496 declares March 26 of every year as a special working holiday commemorating the Historic Liberation of Cebu from the Japanese Occupation during World War II.

"These local festivities will serve as great avenues for the LGUs to promote their products, places and business opportunities that would welcome local and foreign visitors in the country, thereby boosting the economic growth of the LGUs," Marcos concluded. (OLIVE CAUNAN, PRIB)
