Cayetano takes the PTK Listening Tour to Bicol

Senator Alan Cayetano recently conducted a Listening Tour in the Bicol region where he talked to various sectors regarding issues related to PTK: Presyo, Trabaho, Kita.

In Daet, Camarines Norte, Cayetano held discussions with tourism operators and surfing instructors about the state of tourism in the area. The tourism operators shared with the senator their ideas on how to improve tourism in Bicol.

Cayetano also made a stop at Naga City to talk to elementary school teachers and daycare workers about the state of public school education in the province.

He was moved by the plight of the teacher of Naga who revealed to him their need for further training to enhance their skills. This prompted him to push for computer assistance for teachers all over the county to enable them to add to their existing skill set.

Cayetano also reiterated his call for the full implementation of the benefits of teachers as stated in RA 4670 or the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers.

The senator underscored the need for the sufficient provision of benefits to teachers, as well as daycare workers, given their impact on improving the lives of students. "According to studies, younger students have a higher chance of developing reading and writing skills. This is the reason why it is so important that we adequately support our daycare workers and elementary teachers," he said.

Cayetano also gave a speech at the recognition rights at the Bicol State University in Legazpi, Albay where he encouraged students to become productive citizens of the country to help move it forward.

Senator Alan took a quick break from the campaign trail as he and his wife Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary by stopping at the DJC restaurant in Tiwi, Albay to grab their favorite halo-halo. "This restaurant was started by Lola Telet - Lani's grandmother. We went here to celebrate our anniversary and to honor the love Lani's lola poured into all her wonderful food," he said.

Cayetano rounded off his Listening Tour with a discussion with the barangay officials of the Legazpi area to see how he can help address the problems plaguing the region.

Cayetano is set to resume his Listening Tour after the Holy Week. In this light, he called on all Filipinos to reflect on the values that our truly important to the preservation of the country's family ties. "Respect for elders, love for family, faithfulness, loyalty and love - all these are values that we need to keep alive especially in these modern times," he said.
