Nancy: 'Child trafficking, related crimes vs children
and women is everybody's fight'

Sen. Nancy Binay called on concerned government agencies, the private sector and parents to join hand and hand in curbing trafficking and other related crimes committed against women and children.

"Protecting vulnerable sectors of our society, particularly children and women, is everybody's fight," she added.

The lady senator said that protecting women and children against crimes start at the home. She called on every parent to ensure the safety of their children.

International groups have likewise warned that the potential for women and children to be trafficked increases after disasters such as Typhoon Haiyan ("Yolanda").

Binay also urged law enforcement agencies like the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), NBI and PNP as well as other government agencies like the DSWD, LGUs and NTC to be vigilant and aggressive in detecting offenders and implementing laws against child trafficking and related crimes.

She likewise said that the private sector and concerned citizens have a big role in curbing offenders.

By sharing information and technological knowhow, the telecommunications industry likewise has a big role in the campaign against child pornography, child prostitution and human trafficking, Binay said.

"The advent of new technologies and laws, as exemplified by the virtual 10-year-old girl 'Sweetie' has made human traffickers and cyberpornographers easier to track," she added.

Binay said that there are laws that will help government units in enforcing the law, especially some provisions of the controversial Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

"I also urge the Supreme Court to fast-track the decision on the controversial Cybercrime Law so it could help in tracking and arresting cyber offenders," she added.
