GRACE POE TO DOTC, MRT OFFICIALS:
SHOW CONCERN FOR COMMUTERS

Sen. Grace Poe asked Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Joseph Emilio Aguinaldo Abaya to show the highest concern to Filipino commuters braving the trains daily.

"Dapat ipadama natin sa kanila ang ating malasakit para maibsan ang paghihirap at pagdurusang kanilang dinaranas sa kanilang paglalakbay," Poe underscored at a Senate public services subcommittee on transportation hearing that she led today.

The senator pointed out that while the DOTC is awaiting new MRT coaches, it must show deep concern to the riding public by implementing efforts to ease the plight of commuters.

The senator recommended the provision of shuttle buses at stations where MRT trains experience operational troubles in order to bring passengers to the next stations.

Refund tickets or vouchers should also be given to passengers inconvenienced by train malfunctions.

"This is part of the services, hindi pwedeng TY na lang, na sorry bumaba na lang kayo," Poe reiterated.

Likewise, umbrellas should at least be made available to those lining up for a ride, which ordinarily takes 30 to 40 minutes, as Poe herself experienced last Friday.

"Yung mga payong na pwedeng ipahiram sa kanila, ipakita natin na may malasakit tayo dahil mahaba na ang kanilang pasensya. Ipakita naman ninyo sa kanila na habang wala ang ipinapangakong mga tren, meron tayong ginagawa. Gusto ko lamang makita ng taumbayan na may malasakit ang gobyerno natin," the senator said.

Poe underscored, "Hindi matutumbasan ng kahit anupaman ang buhay ng ating mga kababayan."
