Villar SIPAG holds chorale festival competition in honor of San Ezekiel Moreno

"Healing and Faith."

This would be the theme of the contest piece of chorale groups joining the Choral Festival competition sponsored by Villar SIPAG (Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance) in observance of the 167th birthday of our healing saint, San Ezekiel Moreno.

The contest will be held 9 a.m. on April 23, 2015 at the Sanctuario de San Ezekiel Moreno, Villar SIPAG, C5 Road Extension, Pulang Lupa Uno, Las Piñas City.

An audio visual presentation of the life of San Ezekiel Moreno will be presented before the contest proper.

The invitation for the contest was sent out by former Senate President Manny Villar, Sen. Cynthia Villar and Las Piñas Rep. Mark Villar.

Rep. Villar will deliver the welcome remarks while Sen. Villar will give the closing remarks.

Fr. Ricky Pacoma will lead the Invocation which will be followed by the Las Piñas Choir Boys singing the national anthem.

Aside from the contest piece, each choral group, composed of 15 to 25 singers, a conductor and an accompanist shall render a side piece or any love, life or religious song with the focus on "Love and Inspiration."

The contest piece and the side piece can be either English or Tagalog. The allocation of points will be 70% for contest piece and 30% for side piece, which should be sung from memory throughout the delivery.

Conductors are allowed only to conduct on the contest piece. Only a single accompaniment such as a guitar or keyboard and others, shall be allowed in the contest.

The competition is open to all community-based chorale groups throughout the country. Choir members must be 16-22 years old, male and female.

The criteria for judging are the following: Interpretation- manner in which the piece is internalized and presented, 30%; Delivery- quality of voice, fluency, pronunciation, blending and harmony, 30%; Stage Presence, stage poise, eye contact and audience impact, 20%; Costume and Sounds- attire is related to concept, sound production, mixed voices, 10% and Mastery of piece, 10% or a total of 100%.

A total of P150,000 cash prizes will be given to the winners. The grand champion will receive P60,000 while the first runner-up and second runner-up will get 40,000 and 25,000, respectively. The non-winning five groups will receive P5,000 cash each.

A set of judges will be assigned by the organizing committee of Villar SIPAG and the chaplain of Santuario de San Ezekiel Moreno. The judges are known for their achievements and stature in the field of music and performing arts. Their decision shall be based on the results of the competition and shall be final.
