Bam: Enhance Field of Electrical Engineering

A senator has filed a measure seeking to update the regulatory framework for the practice of electrical engineering in the country.

In his Senate Bill No. 2963 or the Philippine Electrical Engineering Bill, Sen. Bam Aquino said the measure hopes to "enhance learning, licensing, testing, and practicing in the field of electrical engineering".

"While a current regulatory framework is in place for electrical engineering in the Philippines, the policy has, unfortunately, not been updated for twenty years," said Sen. Bam, chairman of the Committee on Trade, Commerce and Entrepreneurship.

"This measure seeks to improve, promote, and cultivate electrical engineering in the country, elevating the standards of the profession and ensuring that our Filipino electrical engineers can build a promising career in the Philippines," he added.

Sen. Bam stressed that the electrical engineering industry plays an important role in the economic and industrial progress of the country.

"Homes, hospitals, and offices are reliant on electricity and, on a grand scale, our country's macroeconomic growth and development is dependent on the effective and safe transmission of energy throughout industries and our communities," said Sen. Bam.

Furthermore, Sen. Bam said the proposal will help bridge gap between education and employment by ensuring that the graduates are well equipped for the jobs available in the market.

"Let us reaffirm the value of our Filipino electrical engineers by empowering them with education and skills development at par with global standards and assuring them of a fulfilling career," said Sen. Bam.
