Duterte-Cayetano: We will not allow Palawan to be tarnished by crime, drugs

CORON, Palawan (January 29) -The tandem of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte and Senate Majority leader Alan Peter Cayetano today said illegal drugs is destroying a generation of Filipinos and reiterated their vow to eliminate drug syndicates within the first six months if elected in May.

The duo warned that their campaign against crime and illegal drugs will spare no one.

"These drug syndicates are armed and will resist arrest. When the lives of the people are endangered, I will give them standing orders to shoot these criminals," the mayor said.

Duterte, who is running for president, flew into the city to attend the "Limpio ng Coron 2016: Linisin ang Coron sa Droga, Basura, at Hambalang sa kalsada." Before hundreds of residents, the tough-talking mayor said illegal drug operations have invaded even the countryside. He vowed not to let drugs tarnish the image of Palawan.

"They (pushers) are exchanging shabu for chickens, pigs and other farm animals of the farmers," Duterte revealed.

Meanwhile, Cayetano said crime and illegal drugs are among the fundamental causes of disorder and lack of security in the country.

"Sobra na ang gulo at hirap na dinaranas ng tao mula sa krimen at droga. Kaya nakikiisa kami sa mga Palawenos sa kanilang panawagan na tuluyan nang sugpuin ang problema ng krimen at droga sa bansa. Hindi natin hahayaan na maghari ang kaguluhan at sirain ng droga at krimen ang kagandahan ng inyong lalawigan," Cayetano said.

Cayetano said that in order to win the war against crime and drugs, he and Duterte will strengthen and capacitate the country's security forces.

"We will cleanse the ranks of the police and military of the corrupt, provide better salaries and incentives, and modernize their anti-crime and anti-narcotics infrastructure," vowed Cayetano.

"Hindi na uubra ang pwede na o ang papatak patak na pagbabago. Sa amin ni Mayor Duterte, may matapang na solusyon at mabilis na aksyon para taupusin ang gulo. Makakasama ang lahat sa tunay na pagbabago," Cayetano ended.
