Miriam, Bongbong top Adamson University mock polls
Sen. Marcos set to join Miriam in campaign sorties in Western Visayas

The tandem of Senators Miriam Defensor Santiago and Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr. topped the mocks polls conducted by the Adamson University for president and vice president, respectively.

This developed as Marcos announced that his tandem with Santiago would soon conduct joint campaign sorties in her bailiwick in Western Visayas.

On Feb. 29, the Adamson Chronicle, the official student publication of Adamson University in Manila, posted on its website the result of its mock polls showing Santiago and Marcos trouncing their respective rival candidates.

Santiago received 64.06% of the votes out of 1, 524 respondents and Marcos got 46.35%.

Marcos said it would appear that Santiago's popularity with the youth sector has rubbed off on him which could explain his strong showing in mock polls in universities. "At talagang ang kabataan suportadong-suportado siya. And I am happy to see na pati naman sa akin ay nararamdaman natin na suportado rin tayo ng kabataan," said Marcos.

He said his partnership with the lady senator has been warmly received because of their no-nonsense approach to achieve good governance. "Maybe one of the reasons is that I and Senator Miriam agree on many things, including proper approaches to governance. And that reverberates with young people because young people can see that we need to change the system, that we need to address our country's problems," said Marcos.

Marcos is running on a platform based on national unity which he said is essential in realizing his vision for a more progressive future for all Filipinos.

Marcos also said Santiago has promised to endorse his candidacy to the Visayan people in the same way he asked Ilocanos to support her when they launched their campaign together in Batac, Ilocos Norte.

"Meron kaming planong maglakad sa Visayas naman, doon siya malakas. At sabi niya na naipakilala ko na siya sa aking mga kababayan sa Norte, panahon naman na mapakilalala naman daw niya ako sa mga kababayan niya sa Western Visayas," Marcos said.

Marcos said he and Santiago are still finalizing the details of their sorties in the Visayas.

He also said they agreed to hold most of their campaign sorties separately to maximize the number of people they could reach within the limited, 90-day campaign period for national candidates.

He gave the explanation when asked by media to clarify why he and Santiago were rarely seen together compared to their rival tandems. Santiago was in Laguna last Tuesday while Marcos was conducting his campaign sortie in Rizal.

"Sa dami ng pupuntahan, sa dami ng kakausapin, sa dami ng invitation, ay hindi mo naman mapuntahan lahat. So para mapagbigyan naman lahat, so kahit papano meron naming representative, ganun ang ginagawa," Marcos said.

"May invitation si Senator Miriam sa ibang lugar, may invitation din ako sa ibang lugar kaya pinaghahati-hatian lang namin yung trabaho," he added.

Marcos said Santiago is focusing her efforts on her "secret weapon", which is the youth sector, particularly college students.
