'BAHAY NI POE' OPENS IN MINDANAO

CABADBARAN, AGUSAN DEL NORTE - Leading presidential candidate Sen. Grace Poe has a new home in Mindanao.

While on the campaign trail, Poe led the inauguration of "Bahay ni Poe" Volunteers Center in Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte, an initiative of volunteers coming from different sectors and supporters of Poe's late father Fernando Poe, Jr.

"Salamat sa inyong mainit na pagtanggap, kahit na mainit hindi kayo umaalis, at ako'y natutuwa sapagkat halo-halo ang mga naririto. Nakikita ko 'yung mga diehard na mga FPJ fans na nandiyan," she said to rousing applause.

Poe said this campaign hub is like a home where supporters can gather, give their suggestions and air their grievances.

"Ito ay isang lugar kung saan pwede tayong magtipon-tipon, pwede kayong pumunta para mag-volunteer, at higit sa lahat pwede kayong pumunta para iparating ang kailangan ninyong tulong, paano tayo makakagawa ng isang plataporma na tunay na makakatulong sa ating mga kababayan dito sa Cabadbaran," Poe said.

Poe also led the opening of a volunteer center in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.

In her short speech, Poe reiterated the promise she made during the first presidential debate that she will allocate 30 percent of the national budget to Mindanao should she win the presidency.

Poe said that prioritizing Mindanao, where 10 of the 16 poorest provinces in the country are found, is what "Gobyernong may Puso" is all about. She vowed to support economic development in the region, which she said can help end the long-running insurgency.

"Sa madaling salita, sa Gobyernong may Puso, saan man kayo, gaano man kayo kalayo, iilan man lang kayo sa isang lugar, kayo na ang aming pamilya. Maaasahan ninyo na hindi ko kayo kalilimutan sapagkat minahal ninyo si FPJ, at minahal at hinangaan din niya ang ating mga kababayan dito sa Mindanao," said the senator, an adopted daughter of movie icons Fernando Poe Jr. (FPJ) and Susan Roces.

Poe won with more than 20 million votes - the highest ever cast for a national candidate in Philippine electoral history - when she ran as an independent in the 2013 senatorial elections. A huge number of these votes came from Mindanao.
