Bongbong tops Panay News survey
Marcos thankful for support despite negative campaigning

Vice presidential candidate Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr. topped the survey conducted by Panay News, one of the leading newspapers in Western Visayas.

This developed as Marcos expressed gratitude for the strong support he has been receiving despite the massive negative campaigning launched against him.

In the survey conducted by Panay News from February 24 to 29, 2016 in the four provinces of Panay Island, lone district of Guimaras and seven congressional districts of Negros Occidental among 1,800 respondents, Marcos was the top choice with 28 percent.

He was followed by Senator Francis Escudero with 26 percent, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo with 21 percent, Senator Allan Peter Cayetano with 10 percent, Senator Gringo Honasan with 9 percent and Senator Antonio Trillanes with 3 percent.

Marcos is the favorite vice presidential candidate among the youth and among classes A, B and C.

For the presidential candidates, Senator Grace Poe topped the survey at 26 percent, followed by former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas at 25 percent, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte at 17 percent, Vice President Jejomar Binay at 15 percent and Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago at 13 percent.

The survey, which was conducted at the height of the Edsa anniversary, respondents were asked, "Who will be your candidate for president and for vice president?" in face-to-face interviews.

In another survey conducted by the Manila Standard-Laylo Poll from February 24-March 1, Sen. Marcos was the choice for 24% of respondents, a figure that statistically remains unchanged despite the negative campaigning against him during the survey period. He got 25 percent in the January 2016 survey of the Laylo poll. In the National Capital Region, Sen. Marcos overcame the competition by bagging the top spot at 31% along with Sen. Escudero. But Sen. Marcos was the undisputed choice for voters in the ABC classes with a 32% preference.

Marcos said he is thankful for the strong showing he has been getting but noted his campaign is not dependent on the survey results. "We look at them and we continue with whatever we're doing," he said.

He added he will continue with his advocacy of uniting the country rather than causing division by engaging in negative campaigning.

"We are thankful for the strong support. The people seem to accept my message. We will continue with our message of unity and solidarity to give a better, progressive future for the Filipino people," he said.
