POE VOWS TO GIVE BARANGAY HEALTH WORKERS REGULAR SALARIES

SAN JUAN, Batangas - Independent presidential frontrunner Sen. Grace Poe today vowed to provide regular salaries to all barangay health workers and provide sufficient equipment for their health centers to better care for patients in their respective areas.

Speaking before hundreds of barangay captains, councilors, tanods and health workers, Poe said there is a need to provide regular salaries for village health workers instead of providing them with just honorarium or allowances.

Poe sympathizes with the barangay health workers and other appointed barangay officials who just rely on allowances or honorarium and are thus unable to receive benefits upon retirement.

"Gaya nga ng sinasabi ni Sen. Chiz Escudero (her vice-presidential running mate), kahit na dalawampu't taon na kayong naninilbihan sa gobyerno pag nagretiro kayo wala kayong benepisyo kaya kailangan mayroong sweldo para may basehan sa mga benepisyong mapupunta sa inyong lahat," she explained.

During her speech, Poe also said that if elected President this coming May, she would work for a free irrigation system in all parts of the country, including Batangas, where farmers are charged with certain amount of money for said water services.

Poe also vowed to provide free lunch for all elementary school students and free tuition fees for all students of state colleges and universities in the country.

The Partido Galing at Puso (PGP) standard-bearer, together with PGP senatorial bets Isko Moreno Domagoso, Lorna Kapunan, and Audrey Zubiri who is representing her husband Migz Zubiri, were in this town on the invitation of Batangas 4th District Rep. Mark Llandro Mendoza.
