VERITAS TRUTH SURVEY SHOWS POE HAS MOST QUALITIES OF SERVANT-LEADER

Sen. Grace Poe topped a recent survey by the Catholic Church-run Radio Veritas 846, which asked voters to pick the candidate that they believe possessed the qualities of a servant leader.

Poe, who is running as an independent, was chosen by majority of the 1,200 respondents in the Veritas Truth Survey, which sought to assess Filipinos' perception of the presidential candidates' servant leadership qualities.

The respondents were asked to rank the candidates based on 10 qualities of a servant leader: listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of the people, and building community.

Poe landed on the top spot in 9 out of 10 qualities of a servant leader, with an over-all percentage of 59 percent. The only quality that she was not ranked first was awareness.

"Sen. Poe is overwhelmed by the result of this survey that shows she is the best public servant among the 2016 contenders. She is thankful to our public for appreciating the brand of service she puts in her work as a legislator and servant of the people," Poe spokesperson Rex Gatchalian said.

The nationwide survey, which had a margin of error of +/- 3 percent, was conducted in the first quarter of the year by the research department of Radio Veritas. It used stratified random sampling, with respondents coming from urban and rural areas.

Radio Veritas President Rev. Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual said the Veritas Truth Survey was done to know if the presidential candidates possessed the qualities of a servant leader based on the perspective of voters, and to see if these qualities would affect voters' decisions.

Poe was voted as the most empathetic and the one most committed to the country's growth. People also believed the senator possessed foresight, conceptualization, stewardship and persuasion.

Respondents believed Poe was the candidate who truly listened to her constituents and who would be a healing leader--one that would build a community.

Poe, who is running under the banner of "Gobyernong may Puso" has consistently said that she would be a unifying leader, if she wins in the May 9 elections. She said she would not take revenge on those who tried to deter her presidential bid.

Gatchalian, who serves as mayor of Valenuela City, said these same servant-leader qualities are what Poe would bring to her presidency, if given the chance to lead the country for the next six years.

"Every waking hour she will use to uplift the lives of the 26 million Filipinos living in poverty and looking for employment," he said.

"If given the chance to hold the helm of the nation, Sen. Poe's Gobyernong may Puso will look for solutions to once and for all end poverty and unemployment, the root causes of our other social ills like drugs and crime," Gatchalian said.

Radio Veritas 846 is owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Manila. It is a recipient of the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism for its role in the overthrow of the Marcos dictatorship through a bloodless revolt.
