20 barangays compete at the 3rd Las Piñas Food Festival

All the 20 barangays of Las Piñas City competed in the cooking contest during the 3rd Las Piñas Food Festival held at Villar SIPAG, Pulang Lupa Uno.

This year, the barangays competed for the best hot or cold dessert and fresh green salad.

Sen. Cynthia Villar opened the festivities together with her son, Las Piñas Rep. Mark Villar.

"The food festival is the venue where we showcase our local culinary talents and our local products and produce. Through this event, we are able to promote our city and attract tourists," Villar said.

Barangay Talon 2 won P20,000.00 and trophy as grand winner for its entry - Ube Creamy Fiesta and the Green Medley. First runner-up was Barangay Manuyo 2, won P15,000.00 and trophy for its entry- Nutella Nestle Cream Delight and Capt. Nery Season Green Salad. Barangay Talon 4 won P10,000.00 and trophy as 2nd runner for their Mangoes and Cream in Malunggay crepe with Malunggay Ice Cream and Green Salad with Apple Walnut.

The entries were judged according to the following criteria: Overall impact and plating, 30%; Taste, 30%; Creativity and visual appeal, 15%; Technique used, 15%; and Hygiene and sanitation, 10%.

During the festivities, a food exhibit with 50 exhibitors coming from Las Piñas and other cities and provinces was held. The exhibit showcased fresh or ready to eat foods, processed foods, snacks and beverages, as well as fresh garden or farm produce. Different delicacies and local products were also available for sampling and selling.

The winners of the Urban Gardening Competition in three categories, namely, Inter-Barangay, Inter-School and Inter-Homeowners' Associations were also announced during the festival. Each winner per category received Php 50,000 plus trophy.

The winners in each category were: Interschool- Golden Acres National High School; Homeowners Association - Federation of Homeowners of BF International/CAA at Interbarangay - BF International/CAA.

The food festivals held in previous years saw the triumph of Bgy. Pulang Lupa's Rellenong Labhong with labong and tahong as main ingredients in 2014 and Brgy. Talon 2's kalabasang kalamay in 2015.
