Zubiri enjoions colleagues to look at the whole picture on the war on drugs

On the heels of the joint investigation being conducted by the Senate Committees on Justice and Human Rights and that on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs on the cases of Extra-Judicial Killings, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri stressed the severity of the drug problem.

In his opening statement, Senator Zubiri enjoined his colleagues and the general public to look at the whole picture. 'Let us move closer to home. Last April, I was given information heard that doon sa planta namin sa Cagayan de Oro ay may mga shabu addicts. Ang resulta po, out of 30 na tauhan ko ay 10 ang nag- positive or one third of my work force.

Mexico is losing the war on drugs. Massacres are being done by drug cartels. Pinupugutan, o ibinibitay nang patiwarik, hang upside down.

Ngayon ay dapat i-congratulate natin ang PNP for the job that they are doing now.

That's the reality on the ground.

Zubiri was the principal author of the Dangerous Drugs Law together with Senator Sotto, when he was a member of the House of Representatives, 18 years ago. "With the focused and determined President as a Commander-In-Chief, it will be only now that we will see the full effects of the law. It is a window of opportunity that we should take to win the war on drugs."
