In 'Lawin'-hit areas
NANCY SEEKS PUBLIC, PRIVATE SUPPORT IN RESTORING POWER, WATER, TELCO SERVICES

Senator Nancy Binay today urged the government and the private sector to work hand in hand to immediately restore the electricity, water, and communication services in areas hit by supertyphoon "Lawin".

Binay said that electricity is crucially needed to pump potable water into households, as some LGUs ration residents with water via trucks.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), power interruption is still experienced in 134 cities and municipalities in Regions I, CALABARZON and CAR.

It added that intermittent mobile phone signals are still being experienced in Isabela and Cagayan.

The lady senator was in Isabela and Cagayan over the weekend to personally check the extent of Lawin's damage. She was joined by her father, former Vice President Jejomar C. Binay, and her brother, former Makati Mayor Junjun Binay.

Binay added that executive departments should activate their cash for work programs to facilitate the immediate clearing of debris from roads and repair vital infrastructure.

She said that the poorest of the poor should be prioritized in the distribution of aid, as well as cash for work programs.

"Dapat po nating i-prioritize ang mga mahihirap nating mga kababayan sa pamamahagi ng tulong, pati na rin sa cash for work program, dahil alam po nating kapos ang kanilang kakayanan na makabangong muli," Binay said.

Binay also vowed to revisit the budgets of executive departments that play a role in disaster management, relief, and rehabilitation so that the necessary amount for disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction could be integrated in their budgets for 2017.
